Pokéween 2026: Spooky Pokémon Cards to Collect This Halloween
The nights are getting darker.
Halloween is coming.
And suddenly having a binder full of ghosts seems completely reasonable.
Welcome to Pokéween. 👻
October is a brilliant time to give your Pokémon card collection a slightly darker twist, whether you're collecting Ghost-type favourites, hunting creepy artwork or simply looking for something different to add to your binder.
And in 2026, Pokémon is getting involved too.
What Is Pokéween 2026?
Pokéween is Pokémon's celebration of the spooky season, and this year it runs from 1 October to 31 October 2026.
Participating Play! Pokémon Stores will be holding Pokéween activities including open play, trading sessions and tournaments, with seasonal rewards available at participating locations.
The official 2026 Pokéween Pokémon TCG promo cards feature Zubat, Golbat and Crobat from Mega Evolution—Chaos Rising.
But if we're building a Halloween Pokémon collection, we're definitely not stopping with three bats.
There are decades of brilliantly spooky Pokémon cards to choose from.
Gengar – The Obvious Place to Start
We couldn't write about spooky Pokémon cards without starting with Gengar.
That enormous grin has been haunting Pokémon collections since the earliest generations of the TCG, and Gengar has appeared across numerous sets and eras.
That makes it a fantastic Pokémon to collect by itself.
You could build a binder around classic Gengar cards, modern releases, different artworks or graded examples.
We actually explored Gengar's Pokémon TCG history in our recent Gengar collector's guide, because apparently one article about a purple ghost wasn't enough.
And frankly, we're fine with that.
Gastly & Haunter
Before Gengar comes Gastly and Haunter.
The original Ghost-type evolution line is perfect for a Halloween-themed Pokémon binder, particularly if you collect all three stages together.
One fun approach is to collect Gastly, Haunter and Gengar cards from the same expansion and display the complete evolution line on a binder page.
Then repeat that across different Pokémon TCG eras.
Congratulations. We've just invented another collection you'll never finish.
Mimikyu – Cute Until You Think About It
Mimikyu manages to be adorable and unsettling at exactly the same time.
Which is quite an achievement.
Its strange disguise and instantly recognisable design have made Mimikyu a popular Pokémon with collectors, and its cards have appeared in a variety of styles and rarities.
Mimikyu is particularly good for collectors who enjoy cards where the artwork itself is as important as the rarity.
And naturally, there are cards featuring Gengar and Mimikyu together.
Because apparently Pokémon wanted maximum Halloween energy on one card.
Zubat, Golbat & Crobat – The Official Pokéween Trio
If we're talking about Pokéween 2026 specifically, these three deserve their own section.
Zubat, Golbat and Crobat are featured on this year's official Pokéween promo cards.
They're suitably spooky, involve bats, and have been appearing throughout Pokémon's history.
Pretty difficult to argue with that choice for Halloween.
The 2026 promotional versions are connected to the Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Chaos Rising expansion and are available through participating Play! Pokémon Store activities during October.
Pumpkaboo & Gourgeist – Actual Pumpkin Pokémon 🎃
Come on.
It's Halloween.
We obviously need the Pokémon that is basically a haunted pumpkin.
Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist might not have the enormous card history of Pokémon such as Gengar, but visually they're absolutely made for an October collection.
A dedicated Halloween binder page without Pumpkaboo feels like a serious administrative oversight.
Litwick, Lampent & Chandelure
Another evolution line seemingly designed specifically for spooky season.
Litwick, Lampent and Chandelure take inspiration from candles, lamps and chandeliers while combining them with Ghost-type designs.
More importantly for card collectors, the theme gives Pokémon artists plenty of opportunities for atmospheric artwork.
Dark backgrounds, glowing flames and eerie settings can make cards featuring this evolution line particularly striking in a binder.
Banette
If Mimikyu isn't creepy enough for you, there's always Banette.
Banette's design resembles a possessed doll, complete with a zipper-like mouth and an expression suggesting it knows exactly where you live.
Lovely.
Its darker design means Banette cards can fit brilliantly into a Ghost-type or Halloween Pokémon collection.
Duskull, Dusclops & Dusknoir
For collectors who want their Halloween binder to look properly haunted, the Duskull evolution line is another excellent choice.
Duskull, Dusclops and Dusknoir have appeared across multiple generations of the Pokémon TCG, giving collectors plenty of cards and artwork to explore.
You don't necessarily need the rarest versions either.
A well-designed binder page made from inexpensive singles can sometimes look better than one containing a random selection of expensive cards.
How to Build a Halloween Pokémon Binder
This is where things get fun.
Rather than collecting one particular set, build a binder around a theme.
You could include:
- Ghost-type Pokémon
- Dark or creepy Pokémon artwork
- Bat-themed Pokémon
- Pumpkin and autumn-themed cards
- Psychic and Darkness-type TCG cards with spooky artwork
- Full evolution lines
- Pokéween promotional cards
- Halloween favourites from different Pokémon generations
And here's the important bit:
They don't all need to be expensive.
Some of the most interesting Pokémon artwork can be found on inexpensive singles.
A themed collection is about finding cards that work together rather than simply chasing the highest-priced card on the market.
Don't Ignore the Artwork
Pokémon collecting can sometimes become obsessed with rarity symbols and market values.
But themed collections are a good reminder that the artwork matters too.
A Common, Uncommon or standard Rare card with fantastic spooky artwork might fit your Halloween binder far better than a more expensive card that doesn't match the theme.
So when you're browsing Pokémon singles, don't just look at the price.
Look at the card.
You might find something brilliant for less than the price of a booster pack.
Are Spooky Pokémon Cards Valuable?
Some certainly can be, but being a Ghost-type Pokémon doesn't automatically make a card valuable.
The market value of a Pokémon card can depend on its exact set and version, rarity, artwork, condition, collector demand and whether it has been professionally graded.
That's why it's important to identify the exact card rather than simply searching for something like “Gengar Pokémon card”.
One Pokémon can have many different cards with completely different values.
If you're unsure what the symbols and numbers on your cards mean, our Pokémon card rarity guide explains how modern rarity symbols and card numbers work.

Will you pull something terrifying?
Probably.
Will it be the card you wanted?
That's a considerably scarier question.
Happy Pokéween. 🎃👻
Chase It. Collect It. Love It.
