Espeon vs Umbreon Pokémon Cards | Collector Guide 2026

Espeon vs Umbreon: Which Pokémon Cards Should You Collect in 2026?

Two Eeveelutions.

One impossible decision.

Espeon or Umbreon?

One is a sleek Psychic-type Pokémon associated with daylight. The other is a mysterious Dark-type Pokémon that looks like it knows exactly what you've done.

And Pokémon collectors have been arguing over which is better for years.

At Clifford TCG, we're staying neutral.

Mainly because we don't fancy starting a civil war before the weekend.

Why Are Espeon and Umbreon So Popular?

Espeon and Umbreon were introduced in Generation II as two different evolutions of Eevee.

Espeon became known for its elegant appearance, Psychic typing and connection to daytime evolution.

Umbreon took the opposite direction, with its black body, glowing yellow rings and connection to nighttime evolution.

That contrast has made them a natural pair for Pokémon fans and collectors ever since.

And when it comes to Pokémon cards, both have appeared in some seriously memorable releases.

Espeon Pokémon Cards: The Daytime Favourite

Espeon cards have appeared throughout Pokémon TCG history, from older Japanese and English releases to modern Pokémon ex, V and VMAX cards.

For collectors who appreciate colourful artwork, elegant designs and Psychic-type Pokémon, Espeon has plenty to offer.

Espeon Cards Worth Exploring

  • Espeon from Neo Discovery: a classic appearance from the early Pokémon TCG years.
  • Espeon V Alternate Art: a modern collector favourite with distinctive artwork.
  • Espeon VMAX: popular among collectors who enjoy larger, more detailed Pokémon illustrations.
  • Espeon ex: a name appearing again in the 30th Celebration era.

Whether you're collecting older cards or modern releases, Espeon offers plenty of variety.

Umbreon Pokémon Cards: The Dark-Type Icon

Now for Umbreon.

And yes, we know.

Some of you have already decided Umbreon wins.

Umbreon's popularity has helped make certain cards highly sought-after, particularly versions featuring unusual artwork or limited availability.

Umbreon Cards Worth Exploring

  • Umbreon from Neo Discovery: an early classic with plenty of nostalgic appeal.
  • Umbreon Gold Star: an exceptionally distinctive historical release.
  • Umbreon V Alternate Art: a modern card with striking artwork.
  • Umbreon VMAX Alternate Art: famously nicknamed Moonbreon by collectors.
  • Umbreon ex: another way to collect this fan-favourite Pokémon in the modern era.

Not every Umbreon card costs a fortune, either.

There are cards from different sets and price ranges, making it possible to start an Umbreon collection without selling your furniture.

Which is good, because we'd rather keep the office chairs.

Espeon vs Umbreon: Which Cards Are More Valuable?

It's tempting to declare one Pokémon the winner, but card values don't work quite like that.

A particular Umbreon card may sell for considerably more than a particular Espeon card, while another comparison could produce a completely different result.

The important factors include:

  • The exact card and set
  • Rarity and original distribution
  • Card condition
  • Grading and population
  • Collector demand
  • Recent comparable sales

Popular doesn't automatically mean valuable, and rare doesn't automatically mean expensive.

Always compare the exact version of a card rather than assuming every card featuring the same Pokémon has a similar value.

Pokémon 30th Celebration Brings Espeon and Umbreon Back Into the Spotlight

There's another reason we're talking about these two in October 2026.

Pokémon has officially announced two new products:

  • Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration Battle Deck—Espeon ex
  • Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration Battle Deck—Umbreon ex

Both are scheduled for release on 30 October 2026.

Each deck contains 60 foil cards and is designed to be ready to play.

The Espeon ex deck includes an exclusive illustration rare-style Victini promo card, while the Umbreon ex deck features a Zeraora promo card in a similar style.

Both products also include a deck box, playmat and coin.

So whether you're Team Espeon or Team Umbreon, there's something new to look forward to this month.

Day vs Night: Two Different Collecting Styles

One of the best things about collecting Espeon and Umbreon is how naturally they work together.

You could build an entire binder around the two Pokémon.

Imagine alternating Espeon and Umbreon cards across the pages, collecting artwork from different generations and showing how their designs have evolved.

You could even organise the collection into a daytime and nighttime theme.

And with Pokémon's 30th Celebration embracing that same contrast, the timing couldn't be better.

Should You Buy Singles or Open Packs?

If you're hunting one particular Espeon or Umbreon card, buying it individually can be a more predictable option than repeatedly opening packs.

Opening packs can be brilliant fun, but there's never a guarantee you'll pull the card you want.

That's why many collectors combine both approaches.

They open packs for the experience, then buy singles to fill the gaps in their collection.

At Clifford TCG, you can explore our Pokémon Singles, browse Graded Pokémon Cards, or take your chances with our Booster & Blister Packs.

Are Graded Espeon and Umbreon Cards Worth Collecting?

Graded cards are another popular option, especially for collectors who want authenticated cards protected inside a slab.

But remember that a grade is only one part of the picture.

A PSA 10 does not automatically make every card expensive, and a lower-graded card can still be desirable if the release itself is scarce or historically important.

Before purchasing an expensive graded card, check its certification details, recent comparable sales and overall market demand.

Our Graded Pokémon Cards collection is a good place to explore available slabs.

Which Should You Collect: Espeon or Umbreon?

Here's the wonderfully unhelpful answer.

Whichever one you actually like.

Prefer bright colours, elegant designs and Psychic-type Pokémon? Espeon might be your winner.

Prefer darker artwork, mysterious designs and a Pokémon that looks permanently unimpressed? Umbreon could be the one.

Or collect both.

Honestly, that's probably how most of these arguments end anyway.

Team Espeon or Team Umbreon?

With the new 30th Celebration Battle Decks arriving on 30 October, now is a brilliant time to revisit two of Eevee's most recognisable evolutions.

Whether you're collecting classic cards, modern artwork, graded slabs or the latest releases, there's plenty to discover.

So we're putting the question to you:
